Teacher of Year, RCK: FHS’s Moore

Farragut High School Choir director Mitchell Moore has been chosen Rotary Club of Knoxville’s 2023-2024 Teacher of the Year.

He received the news about 1 p.m., Thursday, May 2.

“I’m very excited,” Moore said. “I’m really honored … the best part about it is while receiving the honor is really nice, the thing that means the most to me is the fact that I didn’t even apply for this.

“My administrators applied for it on my behalf,” he added. “They saw in me something worth an award like this. That is incredible and makes me feel very good.”

“It’s well-deserved,” FHS principal Dr. John Bartlett said. “I’m proud. You’ve done good.

“He’s an outstanding teacher,” Bartlett added about Moore. “Watching him teach is like watching an artist paint. That’s the way it is with all great teachers.

“He’s outstanding in what he does and he gets the best out of kids, connects with them in ways a lot of people just can’t do.”

Viewed as a successful journey, “I’m proud of where it’s gone and from where its come, so I can’t tell (Moore and choir director Kirstine Buchanan) ‘thank you’ enough,” Bartlett said. “... I’m very proud of our vocal music program.”
