Lenoir City ends FHS girls’ basketball season, 75-62

HARDIN VALLEY — Farragut overcame a 10-point deficit to begin its District 4-AAA tourney elimination round game versus Lenoir City Monday night, trailing 37-36 at halftime.

But Jason Mayfield’s FHS girls couldn’t overcome an 11-0 LCHS run to begin the third quarter, as the No. 6 seeded Admirals fell to the No. 7 seeded Panthers 75-62 at Hardin Valley Academy Feb. 13.

Farragut ends its season with a 12-14 overall record while Lenoir City improves to 13-15.

“It wasn’t the greatest effort from us defensively. ... But I just told [LCHS] coach [Tim] Smith, Lenoir City played well. If they play like that they could win a few games in this tournament,” Mayfield said.

Sophomore wing Morgan Carbaugh led Farragut in scoring with 18, followed by sophomore post Brooke Christian with 16 and senior wing Jamie Dallas with 12 — all 12 from behind the 3-point arc. Senior post/wing Kate McMurry added five along with freshman Claire Wyatt. Senior point guard Shelby Matthews scored four while sophomore wing Sydney Chapman added two.

“You hate it for your seniors every year to get put out,” Mayfield said. Also included among the Admirals seniors is guard Erin VanHoozier.

Guard Jordan Brewster, game-hight 21 points, and post Michaela McFalls, 16, led the LCHS offense.
