‘Blissful’ new location
Salon Bliss relocates to a unique, welcoming space in Renaissance | farragut
Long-time friends Kim King and Alexa Marion have relocated their new shop, Salon Bliss, to 12748 Kingston Pike, Suite 101, in Renaissance | farragut.
They moved into their new space Nov. 1, 2016.
“We had a great reaction [to the business relocating to Renaissance | farragut],” Marion said. “We like that [the space] is unique and not so commercial.
“The décor is soothing, natural and a more comfortable environment,” she said. “Our clients said it just sets a certain mood for them. They feel at home and relaxed.
“And, we love meeting our neighbors around here. And they have been so welcoming,” Marion added.
King and Marion cut hair for men, women and sometimes children. They also do hair coloring, smoothing treatments and other hair treatments and facial waxing.
“Kim does wedding updos,” Marion said. “She does lots of updos. She is usually booked for those at prom time and weddings.”
King said she has thought about going into the high schools, doing demonstrations and providing information. They said they want to
get more involved in the
community.
King and Marion said they both have wanted to pursue a career in hairstyling since they were children.
“There’s some who do it to make a living and there’s some who have a passion for it,” Marion said. “We have a passion for it, and I think our favorite part about doing hair is we’re not just doing a service, we see clients we get to create such a good relationship with.”
The two women have been best friends, working side by side for 10 years. Kim said they worked for a local hair salon when they decided to strike out on their own and go into business together.
“We had a bigger vision of just the atmosphere of the salon, the way the clients are treated and how, as moms, we wanted to have our work environment and have the flexibility to work more when we need to and less when there’s a game,” Marion said. “We wanted to make it where it wasn’t just a job, I guess, because we really enjoy what we do.”
They rented a double suite in Sola in Turkey Creek for a few months before they outgrew that space.
“We loved it there and they were great to work with but we were so busy and we needed more space,” Marion said.
They found a vacancy in Renaissance | farragut, and discovered it was just the right size.
“Here, we’ve got the room that we need,” Marion said, adding King’s husband installed the floors and built the desk, mirrors and barn door.
“I cannot imagine us finding a place we like better, and so beautiful,” she said. “There’s so much more space.”
“We definitely do love it over here, and we’re convenient to everybody,” King said.
“We definitely work much harder on our own, but it doesn’t feel like work. It’s like a home away from home for us,” Marion said.
“It doesn’t even feel like we are coming to work now,” King said. “It just feels like we’re coming to play.”
“We both get so excited to come to work,” Marion said. “I would say for about 98 percent of our clientele, we’ve done their hair for so many years.
“We always get new referrals. but we’ve known [most of the clientele] forever so they feel comfortable,” she said. “They just kind of come in, talk to the other clients. It’s almost like an old beauty salon.”
“We’ve had several clients to say that,” King said.
“We like that it’s casual, kind of laid back and relaxing,” Marion said.
The location is more convenient for the owners also, since King lives in Lenoir City and Marion lives in Hardin Valley.
“It’s so convenient with kids,” said Marion, a mother of two while King is a mother of four children.
Studio Bliss does not take walk-ins, as appointments are booked four to eight weeks in advance. However, Marion said the studio is open from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Tuesdays; from 9 a.m. to 6 or 7 p.m., Thursdays and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturdays. King also works from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays.
