Spartans v’ball looking for 6th straight crown; Concord back at state

KNOXVILLE — Despite having only one senior — superstar outside hitter and Pepperdine commitment Kayleigh Hames, — and just two juniors, Webb School of Knoxville volleyball (33-7) is on track to win a sixth consecutive Division II-A state crown.

A possible state title opponent might be a neighbor: Concord Christian School (34-10) also advanced to this week’s state tourney in Murfreesboro. Championship match is set for 10 a.m., EDT, 9 a.m, CDT, Thursday, Oct. 18.

“I don’t worry about the opponent. I worry about ourselves and playing our game,” said Bailey Musrock, Webb junior middle hitter who had three aces, seven kills and four digs in a straight game sectional home win versus Battle Ground Academy Friday, Oct. 12.

“One of the reasons our team wins is we’re really good friends, so we all get along very well,” said Leoni Kunz, junior right side hitter who had eight kills and seven digs.

Hames had eight aces, 17 kills, four blocks and five digs.

Other starters are sophomores Haley Jenkins (34 assists and five digs), Anna Kirkpatrick and Jordan Sandberg.
