Final MAC review: celebrations, reflection

Smith looks back fondly on 6-2 FMS MAC varsity inaugural season

Blake Kilpatrick’s Farragut Middle School junior varsity (seventh grade) team celebrated a Knox area Middle School-Age Conference championship at Alcoa High School Thursday, Oct. 3. The seventh-grade Admirals blanked Halls 24-0.
Seeing his team get off to a fast start during the inaugural year of Knox area Middle School-Age Conference football action, head coach D Smith looks back fondly on his Farragut varsity (eighth grade) season.

“We had a really good season going 6-2, unfortunately losing to Bearden in the playoffs,” Smith said. “I would love to point out a few standout players, but that would have to be this entire team.

“They played so hard and together as a team that it made me extremely proud to coach this team,” he added. “This was an incredible group of young men who gave everything they had at all times —and it showed on Thursday nights.”

Smith said the new conference “was long overdue and one of the best decisions we made at Farragut to be a part of it.

“My hope is what we have done to lay the groundwork will continue on for many years because our kids deserve this type of opportunity to play for their schools and community,” he added.

“The support we had from coach (Eddie) Courtney (Farragut High School varsity football head coach) and his staff was tremendous, and I can’t thank him enough for helping us get the MAC league off the ground.”
