Smoak on Town Center: Old Kroger ‘hopefully’ a hub

While saying TopGolf is looking at “late summer” to break ground on its new facility along Outlet Drive — with a hotel and restaurant possibly built alongside — Town administrator David Smoak talked in some detail about a possible Town Center Wednesday, Jan. 29.

Labeling a center “a real game-changer for our Town, in the middle of our Town,” he added about a possible hub, “I think what you’re hopefully going to see is a redevelopment of that old Kroger building,”

About making use of that particular property, “That’s something everybody’s been wanting to see for years, right?” he said.

“But there were a lot of complications with the property ownership and the building ownership — things a lot of people don’t understand behind the scenes,” Smoak added. “… It’s takes time for these leases to run their course — and they’ve run their course.”

The centralized area considered for a possible Town Center runs west to “Village Green Shopping Center (north along Kingston Pike) down to the (former Mayor Eddy) Ford property (south along Kingston Pike), ... to the Kroger Property (east along Kingston Pike … and up to the West End Center (just north of Kingston Pike) … if you take a circle around that,” Smoak said.
