Williams’ plea: make New Year’s fun virtual

With COVID-19 continuing its rapid spread throughout Farragut and Knox County, Town Mayor Ron Williams is making a plea for residents to limit their New Year’s celebration contact with others outside of their household.

“I am not in favor of getting together for New Year’s this year,” he said.

“Those kind of parties typically involve people you don’t even know.”

Williams also cited the inability to social distance or wear masks as activities revolve around food and beverages. “I would just ask our citizens to do New Year’s Eve virtually, too, if it is at all possible,” he said.

The mayor also mentioned a visual study he had seen where elevated decibels, due to music or other noises, “makes the virus travel farther because people are trying to talk over the music, causing more spit to come out.”
