KCSO reports

• At 7:29 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 28, Knox County Sheriff’s Office units responded to Kingston Pike at Everett Road in reference to an overdose. Upon arrival, officers met with the complainant and the suspect. Complainant said he picked up the suspect on South Fox Den Drive. Complainant said the suspect was stumbling and going in and out of consciousness. Complainant said he had stopped on the side of the road and called law enforcement when the suspect had gone out of consciousness. Upon the arrival of AMR and Rural Metro, Narcan was administered and the suspect regained consciousness. Suspect was transported by AMR to Tennova Turkey Creek Medical Center.

• At 12:32 a.m., Feb. 28, officers were dispatched to an Outlet Drive address. Victim/complainant said an altercation was going on he attempted to stop when the suspect struck him in the face. Suspect said he was dealing with an altercation, and the victim ran up and pushed him while he was attempting to get up from the ground. Both parties refused medical treatment.

• At 8:21 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 27, officers responded to reports of an extremely intoxicated person at a North Campbell Station Road address. Officers spoke with suspect No. 1 and suspect No. 2. Both suspects were unconscious in a 1994 Chevrolet truck. Suspect No. 1 had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his person. Multiple open containers of Bud Light beer were observed inside the vehicle. While suspect No. 1 attempted to walk, and while officers tried to get him to sit on the curb and let Rural Metro Fire personnel evaluate him, he began to physically resist arrest by pulling away from officers.

Suspect No. 1 also refused multiple commands from officers to allow his wrists to be placed in handcuffs. He was read the Implied Consent Violation form and agreed to a blood draw. A blood draw was attempted by Rural Metro Fire personnel. However, a sample could not be collected because “his blood clotted too fast,” the KCSO report quoted. Standardized Field Sobriety testing could not be completed due to Suspect No. 1 being unable to stand without losing his balance and falling over.

A records check confirmed Suspect No. 1 had a prior DUI, which was his fourth such offense, in 2013. He was taken into custody for DUI 4th offense and resisting arrest. Suspect No. 2 was found unconscious with a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his person. This suspect refused to “obey multiple commands to exit the vehicle and continued to grab onto the vehicle and physically resist arrest by pulling away from officers,” the report quoted.

Suspect No. 2 also refused to give up his hands by trying to keep them under his body and away from officers. Officers attempted to pull his arms out from under him while he was physically resisting. Both suspects had minor lacerations on their faces and hands during the incident but were cleared by Rural Metro Fire personnel to be taken to jail. Suspect No. 2 was charged with public intoxication and resisting arrest. Both suspects were taken to Roger D. Wilson Detention Facility.
