‘Egg Hide and Hunt’ brings home the fun

While community-wide Easter Egg hunts may be scarce this year, one Farragut woman is taking the festivities straight to the source.

Maryann Azambuja is spearheading “Egg Hide and Hunt for Property Pros for LLS,” a fundraiser with all proceeds going to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of East Tennessee. She and several volunteers currently are taking reservations to hide one or more dozen eggs in families’ yards for their children to find Friday, April 2, and Saturday, April 3.

“We can accommodate as many people as we need to,” Azambuja said of the ambitions venture, for which 160 dozen eggs already have been filled with candy or toys. “If someone lets me know April 1 they need a dozen eggs, we will make that happen.”

As a fun bonus, children will even receive a handwritten letter from the Easter Bunny on their front porches.

“It’s a fun thing to do; and especially with continued COVID-19 concerns, it is also an ideal activity because we can come to you, and you can still make it happen for your kids,” she added.

Azambuja, who works for Choice Home Warranty, is on a mission, not only to provide a fun and exciting activity for eager children, but also to help raise money for LLS.

The Egg Hunt is just one of several fundraising activities she is working on spanning a 10-week period as part of the group’s annual “Woman” and “Man of the Year” contests. Individuals are nominated for the honor, and if they agree, compete against each other to raise the most funds for the charity. Whoever raises the most is named “Man” or “Woman of the Year.”

“It is the No. 1 cancer affecting children under the age of 20; however, it is also one of the most curable, so the money we raise goes for research and to families who can’t afford to pay for treatments,” Azambuja said.

She said a board comprised of 15-to-18 individuals is working right alongside her on the campaign.
