Shorthanded Lady Hawks 1-0-2 at BHS

KNOXVILLE — Hardin Valley Academy girls soccer head coach Jessie Stephens knew her Lady Hawks faced some stiff tests late last week as they made their annual trip to the Bearden Invitational.

What’s more, the Lady Hawks were short-handed due to illness — but they played valiantly and went unbeaten while picking up win No. 1.

Hardin Valley closed the weekend event Sunday afternoon with a 0-0 draw versus Science Hill Sunday, Sept. 5. Junior goalkeeper Emma Cooke made nine point-blank saves against SHHS (4-1-2).

Stephens also had high praise for Norah Jacomen, Claire Palya and Reese Williams. “Those four players ... have done a really good job leading our team, both on the field and off,” Stephens said.

The Lady Hawks (1-1-4)opened tourney play Friday, Sept. 2, by capturing their first victory of the season, defeating Houston 1-0, then played Chattanooga Christian to a 2-2 draw Saturday, Sept. 3.
