‘Impressed’ with Hawks: Stephens

It’s been well more than a month since Hardin Valley Academy boys’ soccer team lost a match, which was 2-1 to Maryville. At week’s end, the Hawks stood at 9-1-3 overall, 3-1-1 in District 3-4A.

“I’ve just been really impressed by my team as a whole,” head coach Jessie Stephens said. “I think they’ve really come together. They’re working really hard and doing a great job.”

Scoring leaders for the Hawks have been sophomore forward Brady Hammer with eight goals (and 12 assists), and six goals each from center-mid Collin Combs, D.J. Powers, Mason Sandidge and Ish Palacios.

Goalkeeper Avery Brolas has “had a great season, he’s been a great leader,” Stephens said. “I’m real excited that he stepped up in that position.

Combs “has been steady for us. Sandidge has been playing great,” she added.

“Right now we’re just trying to not catch the injury bug.”
