Stringing together a few wins: FHS soccer

Scoring what might have been their final goal in a Farragut High School home boys soccer game, seniors Eric Sonnenschein and Ty Finnegan also have the satisfaction of knowing their goals produced a goodbye victory.

Sonnenshein’s sharp-angled 25-yard strike on the left side broke a scoreless tie in the 60th minute versus East Hamilton Thursday evening, May 4, before Finnegan’s successful penalty kick in the 76th minute — set up by a nice move by Sonnenschein in the offensive box — gave the Ads a 2-0 victory on FHS Senior Night.

District tourney triumph

Even better was a dramatic 3-2 District 4-AAA Tournament opening-round win at No. 4 seed Lenoir City Monday evening, May 8 — with Farragut taking its first lead of the game in the 79th minute.

The victory gives the Admirals a shot at mighty, and unbeaten, top-seeded rival Bearden (11-0-3) on the road starting at 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 10, in a loser-go-home tourney semifinal.

Junior forward Anders Deets scored the last-minute game-winner — his first varsity goal — improving the Admirals’ record to 5-10-1 as the tourney’s No. 5 seed.

Down 1-0 at the half, Farragut tied in on senior Jack Bukovitz’s goal in the 46th minute. Down 2-1, the Admirals once again tied the score, coming in the 69th minute, on a goal by Sonnenschein.

The Panthers, meanwhile, see their season end with a 15-3 record.
