letters to the editor

I moved to Knox County in March of 2022. My wife and I live in the Choto area. In the District 5 Knox County Commission race there are five Republicans running for office. Since I did not know any of them. I research all of them using Google and DuckDuckGo. One candidate had issues that disqualified them for my vote. Others had the same message. Growth and Infrastructure without any specifics.

I have seen Angela Russell as a conservative Republican working with common sense ideas to slow down the out-of-control growth that has outgrown, and unable to provide, adequate services to communities on South Northshore Drive. Only one candidate had the knowledge and experience I was looking for. I will vote for and support Angela Russell for District 5 County Commission. She is a state-licensed Certified Public Account and a state-licensed real estate appraiser. Qualities we need on the Knox County Commission.

Below are some of her qualifications

• Graduated with highest honors from the University of Tennessee in Accounting. Obtained Tennessee State Board of Accountancy Certified Public Accountant License #10359. This equips me to understand accounting, budgets, and financial management.

• Tennessee Real Estate Appraiser Commission Certified General Real Estate Appraiser License No. 4236. Obtained Appraisal Institute MAI designation. This gives me a better understanding of real estate, its development and its effect on our community.

• Employment experience in public accounting, private business accounting and management, and real estate appraising.

• Numerous terms on subdivision HOAs and a founding member of the Northshore-Choto HOAs group. The Northshore-Choto HOAs group was formed to address road safety, lack of infrastructure, and concerns about high density changing the character of our community.

• History of advocating for better roads.

• History of advocating for responsible development. Proven leadership and effective results in opposing Choto Landing, a proposed high density government subsidized development. I helped author the proposed Choto Landing development opposition website (see link), raise legal funds, make phone calls, put up signage, organize multiple community meetings and served as legal counsel point-person. https://www.chotolanding.com
