Webb football accepts HWWW contest $1,000, keeps ‘hat’

Thirteen of Webb School of Knoxville’s senior football players joined head coach Don Mahoney, sixth from left, to accept the spoils as the latest PureMagic-farragutpress How the West Was Won Contest champion, among six local high schools for best 2023 regular season record, finishing 9-1 (10-2 overall).

Laura Sayers, farragutpress advertising executive who represented both companies, pictured behind check, spoke briefly during the program’s banquet Sunday, Jan. 28, in Chesapeake’s restaurant in West Knoxville. Sayers then presented a $1,000 check ($500 from each company) to Mahoney and his seniors on behalf of the entire team. The Stetson Hat HWWW Traveling Trophy, held by senior Xavier HIckman, far right, was retained by Webb as back-to-back champs, the program’s fifth in the 16-year history of this PureMagic-sponsored contest.
