Reaction to the May 10 earthquake
I was in the kitchen when it happened. Being from Memphis, I immediately thought of Hurricane Elvis — the devastating straight winds that blew through the city in 2003.
I ran to the window to “look,” which in retrospect was really not the smartest thing to do in that situation, regardless of what kind of natural disaster was occurring.
I quickly realized that we might have been experiencing an earthquake. I ran back to the couch where my chihuahua, Grits, was laying and I held her until it was over.
