Traffic flow continues to be a priority for Town of Farragut Board, staff
From the Town
Traffic flow continues to be a key priority for Town of Farragut Board and staff.
Farragut residents talk, and the Farragut Board of Mayor and Aldermen (BOMA) and Town staff listen. That’s why several new transportation and infrastructure projects were included in this year’s budget, which passed at the July 24 BOMA meeting.
Residents want traffic to move efficiently, and several projects that will improve traffic flow are included in the Town’s Capital Investment Program (CIP).
The CIP, created by Town staff and prioritized by the Board, lays out how big projects, like road improvements and park improvements, will be funded and managed over the next six years. Design and/or construction on the following projects is scheduled to begin this fiscal year (July 1, 2025 – June 30, 2026):
• Adaptive traffic signal upgrades — Adaptive technology will be added to signals at the Town’s major intersections. Completion of the Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) created central control for the Town’s 26 signals, but adaptive technology will allow the signals to adjust timing based on traffic demands.
These improvements will be ongoing over the next three to four years.
• Union Road improvements — Union Road from Everett Road to Hobbs Road will be reconstructed with two 11-foot lanes with curb and gutter and a shared-use path, as well as reconstruction of a bridge over Little Turkey Creek. Construction is expected to begin this year.
• Boyd Station Road improvements — Approximately 3,500 feet of Boyd Station will be widened and improved with storm drainage infrastructure and a greenway with a grass buffer. A roundabout will be constructed at the entrance to the Grove subdivision. Construction is expected to begin this year.
• Campbell Station Road/Jamestowne Boulevard intersection improvements — This new traffic signal will make it easier to turn left from Jamestowne Boulevard onto northbound Campbell Station Road and provide a signalized pedestrian crossing near the school entrance. Design will be completed this year.
• New traffic signal at Concord Road/Loop Road — This new traffic signal will make it easier to turn left from Loop Road onto southbound Concord Road and will also create gaps in traffic on Concord Road near Concord Hills. Design for this project has been completed and construction is expected to begin this year.
• Watt Road roundabout — A roundabout on Watt Road at the southern entrance to Mayor Bob Leonard Park will provide traffic calming and improved pedestrian safety. Plans are being finalized and construction is expected to begin this year.
These projects are planned to improve traffic flow near the future Farragut Elementary School:
• New Sugarwood Drive access to Kingston Pike — A new access road will connect Sugarwood Drive to the intersection at Kingston Pike and Smith Road to allow easier access to and from Sugarwood subdivision during peak traffic.
Design is expected to be completed this year and construction will begin in FY 2027.
• Pedestrian crossing on Boring Road — A mid-block crosswalk from the existing greenway on the south side of Country Manor subdivision to a proposed sidewalk on Boring Road will improve pedestrian access to the new elementary school.
Design is expected to be completed this year.
• Intersection improvements at Boring Road/Smith Road — The new elementary school on Boring Road will require improvements to this intersection, including a multi-way stop and reconstruction of Dominick Point. Design is expected to be completed this year.
