Admirals stung by the Bees

Baxter – The early-season struggles continued last week for the Farragut High School football team.

The Admirals already have played a Class 5A state champion in Sevier County and another Class 5A power in Powell.

Things didn’t get any easier for Farragut when they took the field against the 2023 Class 4A state champion Upperman on Thursday, Sept. 4 on the Cumberland Plateau.

“They’re just a great football team,” Farragut coach Geoff Courtney said of the Bees, who jumped out to a big lead on their way to a 42-6 victory over Farragut. “They’re a great football team and they have great personnel.

“They have a slew of great players.”

The Admirals (0-3) fell behind Upperman (2-1), which already has defeated Webb School of Knoxville and came up on the short end of a high-scoring game against Greeneville, another Class 4A power.

The Bees darted to a 28-0 lead before Farragut scored its lone touchdown on a 3-yard run by Nathan Jacobs with five minutes, 50 seconds remaining in the second quarter.

Next up for the Admirals: Farragut will return home this week as it opens the Region 2-6A portion of its schedule against Bradley Central. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. at Bill Clabo Field.

The Bears enter the contest with a 2-1 overall record. They have won two consecutive games and are coming off a 49-0 victory over Hardin Valley Academy at home Friday in the Region 2-6A opener for both teams.

Bradley Central, which knocked the Hawks from the ranks of the unbeaten last week, lost its season opener, falling to McMinn County, 21-17. The Bears bounced back to defeat Walker Valley, 28-14, in Week 2.
