Running to support the community
Two upcoming races present fitness, fun, while giving back
Runners have an opportunity to enjoy their favorite pastime while supporting the community with two upcoming races.
There will be a Veterans 5K and 10K run Saturday, Nov. 8, and the annual Hot to Trot run on Thanksgiving Day, Nov 27.
Organized by Fleet Feet Knoxville Running Club, the Veteran’s Salute Race, with donations going to local veterans charities, such as Wreaths Across America and Irrreverant Warriors, will start and end at Farragut Community Center, 239 Jamestown Blvd.
During a Thursday, Oct. 9, Farragut Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting, Town Community Development director Mark Shipley said those runs “will affect a number of public streets, including streets within the Village Green subdivision and the outside lane of North Campbell Station Road.
“The 10K will involve running the 5K twice, and this route is the same route that has been used in previous years,” Shipley said. “The event will have four (Knox County Sheriff) officers to help with traffic control along with a number of volunteers along the course route to direct participants.”
In the special event application, organizer Shahin Hadian owner of Fleet Feet, said the event will take place from 6 to 11 a.m., when he expects about 300 participants and 30 spectators.
Parking should be available at Village Green shopping center and nearby churches.

The annual Hot to Trot 10K, 5K and Fun Run, also organized by Fleet Feet Knoxville Running Club, will involved partial, temporary closure of Parkside Drive.
Beginning at 7:30 a.m. and ending at 10:30 a.m., the races will benefit Hand Up for Women and Shepherd of Hope Food Pantry in Farragut.
“The event will have five sheriff officers to help with traffic control,” Shipley said. “The event will start and finish at Parkside Station, where the Fleet Feet store is located, at 11619 Parkside Drive.
“Parking will be provided in nearby commercial parking lots,” he said. “The event will follow the same course and format as previous years.”
In the application, Hadian stated he expects 3,000 participants and about 100 spectators.
He stated the inside lanes of Parkside Drive will be coned off along the entire course with barriers to close the section of Parkside Drive in front of Fleet Feet Knoxville.
