Lions shut out Force

Gatlinburg — Concord Christian School notched another victory last week in its first full varsity football season in nearly a decade.

The Lions shut out the Georgia Force, 35-0, Saturday afternoon at Gatlinburg-Pittman High School.

The Force is a team comprised of home-schooled athletes from the Atlanta Area.

Concord coach Steve Matthews wasn’t quite sure what to expect heading into the contest, but he was pleased with the Lions’ performance in the victory.

“Our guys played really well,” Matthews said after watching his team improve to 4-3 on the season. “We’re going to keep working and keep getting better in practice.”

Quarterback Kohbe Ward was perfect through the air as he completed 8-of-8 passing attempts for 197 yards. He also hurled four touchdown passes.

Donovan Underwood and Dasani Moulden each pulled in a pair of touchdown receptions. Underwood finished the contest with three receptions for 93 yards while Moulden had four receptions for 92 yards.

Running back Maurice Smith amassed 100 rushing yards on 10 carries for Concord, which will play its only true home game Friday afternoon when it hosts South Greene at CCS.

Kickoff for the homecoming game is slated for 2:30 p.m.

“That will be exciting because it’s going to be our homecoming and South Greene is a really good football team. They’re 6-1,” Matthews said. “We’re looking forward to this game.”

South Greene enters the game on a six-game winning streak after losing its season opener in August.
