Admirals, Hawks headed for Class AAA State

Knoxville — Two area high school cross country teams have qualified for the upcoming TSSAA Class AAA State Championships.

Farragut High School and Hardin Valley Academy will compete in State Championships, which will be contested Friday in Memphis.

Farragut High School and Hardin Valley Academy will both compete on the Volunteer State’s grand stage at Shelby Farms Park.

The Admirals won the Section 2-AAA Team Championship early last week and two Farragut athletes swept first and second place at the region championships on Tuesday, Oct. 28, at Victor Ashe Park in Northwest Knoxville,

Sam Shagan won the individual sectional title as he completed the 5,000-meter course in 15 minutes, 56. His teammate, Chase Temples, came in second as he threw down a time of 16:09. 35.

Tyson Ebbert finished fifth with a time of 16:27.27. Anders Kofoed was 12th (16:50.33) and Nick DeGuira came in 15th (16:57.93) for the Admirals, who scored 34 team points, followed by Hardin Valley (47).

JD Rutig was the Hawks’ top finisher. He came in sixth, posting a time of 16:30.09. Isaac Socha was seventh (16:37.34). Cooper McKaig was 10th as he clocked in with a time of 16:48.34.

Stephen Bell came in 11th (16:49.34) and Will Allen was 13th (16:59.75).

Bearden had three runners at sectionals.

Alexander Montpelier finished 28th (18:17.34). Reid Townsend came in 45th (20:26.85), while Grayson Haun was 50th (22:54.84).
