CAK, Irish advance in playoffs

Three local private high school football teams began the TSSAA Division II playoffs last week. The Class

AAA and AA representatives won while the Class A team lost.

The No. 4 East seed in AA, Christian Academy of Knoxville hit the road to Middle Tennessee to play No. 4 West seed Goodpasture Thursday, Nov. 6 and came away with a 42-35 win.

“It was the first road Division II playoff win in school history,” said Warriors head coach Chad Speck. “And we got that win on a short week.”

Running back Ryan Gibson rushed for 253 yards on 29 attempts and scored twice.

Quarterback Seaton Moffett made seven completed passes, fired three touchdown strikes and had 130 yards passing. Receiver Gabriel Linkous had four catches, two for TDs. Collin Crider had a 34-yard scoring catch.

Standing out on the Warriors’ defense was Marvin Wyrosdick, who had five solo tackles and 13 assisted stops and forced one fumble.

CAK improved its record to 7-4, while Goodpasture ended its season at 7-4.

KCHS 21 CBHS 18

Knoxville Catholic hit the road to Memphis to play Christian Brothers, the No. 4 seed in the

West in AAA. KCHS held on to win 21-18, Friday, Nov. 7.

Irish junior quarterback Mack Bartholomew fired touchdown passes to Tyreek King, who had 100 yards receiving in the first half alone.

Casen Jenkins caught a TD pass from 26 yards in the fourth quarter.

Concord Christian lost in the Class A match-up last Friday.

Lions’ Maurice Smith rushed 25 times for 277 yards. Quarterback Kohbe Ward completed eight of 20 passes for one TD and 140 yards and one interception. Dondon Underwood caught a TD pass and had 75 yards total (two catches).

The Lions, the No. 3 seed in the East, ended the season with a 6-5 record while Jackson Christian, the No. 3 seed in the West, improves to 9-2.
