Admirals dominate
finished the Classic 2-0, improved to 5-0
Then again, there’s a time and place for an occasional cruise down Easy Street.
Last Tuesday night at Lynn E. Sexton Gymnasium, Farragut High School’s boys’ basketball team played First Baptist Academy (from Powell) in the second round of the two-day Dental Implant Center 2025 Thanksgiving Classic.
The Admirals’ cruise couldn’t have been easier.
Farragut was completely dominant on both offense and defense, and overwhelmed the overmatched Eagles, 62-18.
FHS finished the Classic, 2-0, and improved to 5-0 on the young season. Coach JP Burris was asked if he was more pleased with his team’s performance on O or D.
“I was happier with our defense,” Burris said. “We still have some things offensively we have to clean up. But defensively, our big thing is effort. The effort was there the last two nights.”
The teams were actually tied at five two minutes into the game. From there to the end of the first quarter, the Admirals outscored FBA by an eye-popping 19 points – 21 to 2 – finishing the period leading 26-7.
The second period was little better for the Eagles. Farragut scored the first 10 points – making the run 31-2 since it was tied at five – and led at halftime, 36-9.
The first half was almost a blur of Admiral layups – 11 in the half – which resulted from repeatedly forcing Eagles’ turnovers. HIghlighting the FHS offensive explosion was a pair of dunks.
The first was by senior wing Britton Lewis with 2:49 left in the first. The second was an alley-oop slam by senior post Reid Vining, set up by point guard Parker Lane, with 3:45 left in the half. Vining’s dunk made the score 34-7.
Despite Burris substituting widely in the second half, things got no better for FBA. Farragut scored the third period’s first eight points - all on layups - to lead 44-9, and led at the end of three, 51-14.
An 11-4 advantage for FHS in the fourth closed out the scoring.
Vining scored 12 for the Admirals, while Lewis added 11. Burris had high praise for senior guard Dan Lanning.
