Lady Hawks Split Games at 5 Star Preps Hammers Tournament

Clinton — The 5-Star Preps Hammers Tournament produced mixed results for Hardin Valley Academy’s girls basketball team over the weekend.

The Lady Hawks opened the tournament on a positive note Friday night at Anderson County High School, edging William Blount 39-35.

“That was a big win for us,” Hardin Valley coach Jennifer Galloway said. “It was the first game of a Christmas tournament and the first game of Christmas break, and it’s always good to win that game.

“I thought they threw a lot of different things at us, and I think we did a good job adjusting.”

Senior Alaina Lineberry led the Lady Hawks with a game-high 23 points against the Lady Governors. Audree Riehn also finished in double figures, scoring 11 points.

Hardin Valley, however, was unable to carry that momentum into the second round, falling to host Anderson County 53-36.

“Anderson County is a really good team,” Galloway said. “It was a very physical game, and we just didn’t

adjust well enough to that physicality.

“We did some good things, but unfortunately we had some lulls in that game, and we struggled.”

Riehn led Hardin Valley in scoring in the loss with 15 points.

Despite the split results, Galloway said she remains encouraged by her team’s progress.

“We’re getting better little by little,” she said. “Our kids are confident in themselves and they believe in the process. They also understand that it’s going to take time.”
