Lady Ads dominate, improve to 8-0 in district

Farragut High School entered this week as the only team with a perfect District 4-4A record, and the Lady Admirals kept that undefeated mark intact with a victory over McMinn County Monday night, April 6.

Farragut’s journey through its league schedule has included several lopsided victories; and before the Lady Admirals dismantled the Lady Cherokees, 14-1, Monday night, they made short work of Kingston Pike rival Bearden on Tuesday, March 31.

Farragut (17-4 overall, 8-0 in the district) routed the Lady Bulldogs, 10-0, in five innings at BHS’s Kim Hazelwood Field.

The Lady Ads got off to a quick start as they scored twice in the top of the opening frame as Hannah Grace Johnson came up with an RBI single. Johnson later came home as Rylee Raby reached on an error, making the score, 2-0.

It was a night of small ball for Farragut, which had only one extra-base hit, a double by Raby. The Lady Admirals, however, collected 10 hits and took advantage of five errors. Farragut also was patient at the plate as they drew five walks.

FHS coach Nick Green would’ve preferred a bigger power display from his squad, but he certainly wasn’t going to complain about the apparent lack of style points.

“We put pressure on them and we did a good job running the bases. I did get one runner thrown out, but we’re going to be aggressive,” Green said. “We didn’t club them like I would’ve liked, but we had hits and we had walks.

“And we took advantage of some things that they gave us.”

Farragut also had six stolen bases in the contest and were retired in order only once, in the top of the fourth frame.

In the second, Farragut added three more runs and extended its advantage to 5-0.

Raby, who went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs, had a two-run single, and Jameson scored when Dajah Means reached on an error.

The Lady Admirals scored two runs in the third, extending their advantage to 7-0.

Taylor Albright reached on an error, scoring Callie Brown and Raby drove in another run with a single, bringing home Albright, who was 2-for-3. She scored three runs.

In the fifth, Farragut scored three more runs to set up an early ending due to the TSSAA mercy rule.

Farragut pitcher Hudson Bradford posted a solid performance in the circle as she tossed a five-hit shutout. She went five innings. She had nine strikeouts in the contest.

Bearden’s Jenna Gonzales and Bailey Hauge had two hits in the game and Banjo Dunne doubled in the bottom of the first inning.

The Lady Admirals closed out the week with a 10-0 victory over Maryville in a non-district game on Wednesday, April 1.
