FHS awards seniors’ achievements
“There’s a lot to celebrate,” FHS principal Dr. John Bartlett said. “This is kind of the kickoff of the celebration weekend, which will culminate with graduation Sunday night [May 17].”
Among the other numerous awards, such as for National Merit and department awards, students received scholarships and community awards, military recognition and 865 Academy awards.
This year’s highest awards, the Anchor Awards, went to Camille Faugot, Brody Gruver, Noah Haag, Jake Harris, Ella Schlomer, Morgan Switzer and Reid Vining.
The military recognition included the enlistment of Elliott Christiansen into the U.S. Marine Corps and Bella O’Malley into the U.S. Navy. Additionally, Caden Watters received a $20,000 scholarship from the Navy Reserve Officer Training Corps to attend the University of Michigan and Savannah Sweers-Dunn received a $180,000 scholarship from the Marine Corps ROTC to attend the University of Mississippi.
Five students received computers with the Rising Tide Computer Scholarship, paid for from a donation from Bradley’s Chocolates.
Also, Lauren Davis earned the Lafayette and Pearl Hubbs Memorial Scholarship; Jasmine Leuciuc, Commercial Bank Spirit Scholarship; Kendall Austin, Evan Richey Memorial Scholarship; Chase McAvoy, Lendon and Charlotte Welch Scholarship; John Haskins, HBA Student Workforce Award; Bruce Truax and Gabby Platt, Society of American Military Engineers award; Skylar Overholt and Sana Kado, Tennessee School of Beauty scholarship; Abigail Van Orden, Noah Haag, Britton Lewis, Metro Drug Commission’s award; Owen Petoskey and Hayden Duncan.
This year, there were a record number of seniors who were National Merit finalists. The 18 finalists were: Jessie An, Sophia Chen, Ethan Guo, Grace Im, Sruti Kamujula, Isabel Kao, Hisato Kurosaki, Jared Li, Nuoyan Li, Alexander Lin, Albert Liu, Zhiyan Leyton Lu, Adithya Sastry, Dorian Schultz, Yunpeng Tan, Nathaniel Williamson, Emily Xu and Frank Yang.
The top 10 seniors are Sophia Chen, James Nguyen, Ruhann Singh, Jessie An, Margaret Feng, Stephen Xiao, Yunpeng Tan, Jared Li, Maggie Zhong, Zhiyan Leyton Lu, Matthew Nguyen, Emily Xu, Frank Yang, Kieran Barr, Ish Patel and Adithy Sastry.
