Race day coming to Village Green
Village Green Swim Team is gearing up for its team triathlon Thursday, July 16.
Farragut Board of Mayor and Aldermen approved a special event permit for the event during the Board’s meeting Thursday, June 11.
“This triathlon is a recurring event and includes biking and running on selected streets in the Village Green subdivision,” Community Development director Mark Shipley said. “Since these are public streets, this event must be approved by the Board of Mayor and Aldermen.
“The start and finish will be at the Village Green Monticello pool,” he said. “The event is expected to have around 100 participants and roughly 25 spectators.
“No streets will be closed and volunteers will be stationed around the course,” Shipley said. “The event time frame is from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.”
He said the event was presented to the Town’s Event Committee on Monday, June 1, and was approved. Shipley pointed out, though, the day after the Event Committee meeting, it was discovered a storm sewer under South Monticello Drive is being replaced and a section of that street will be closed during the time frame of the triathlon event.
“The applicant has been made aware of this and has been asked to provide a modified route,” Shipley said.
In the application, Nicole Bailes with the swim team, stated in the application the triathlon is being held “to allow swimmers to participate in a triathlon for fun during their normal practice time.”
Attendees are asked to park along Bellfield Road and Cloverfork Drive or walk from their Village Green homes.
