Town ready for big Fourth of July crowd

The Town of Farragut is gearing up for its Independence Day Parade this Saturday, July 4, along Kingston Pike, starting at 9:30 a.m.

“We’ve got a huge Fourth

of July parade coming up,” Town administrator David Smoak announced at the Farragut Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting Thursday, June 25.

The parade will begin at Farragut High School at Lendon Welch Way to Boring Road next to Ingle’s Market.

As such, Kingston Pike will be closed from 8:30 a.m. to about noon from Lendon Welch Way to Federal Boulevard.

“The portion of Kingston Pike from Concord Road/West End Avenue to Campbell Station Road will be reopened approximately 15 minutes after the final parade participant has passed through the Campbell Station Road/Kingston Pike intersection,” the Town’s website stated. “Kingston Pike will be fully reopened once

all participants are safely off the road.”

Additionally, there will be road closures from 8:30 to 9:15 a.m. for the Farragut Freedom Run, which are South Campbell Station Road (from Kingston Pike to Brooklawn Boulevard) and Municipal Center Drive.

Detours include:

• North side: Use Campbell Station Road to Grigsby Chapel Road/Smith Road (west) or Parkside Drive/Lovell Road (east).

• South side: Use Concord, Turkey Creek and Virtue roads to access Kingston Pike.

“It’s a 250th anniversary of our great country and [Parks and Recreation director] Ron [Oestreich] at Parks and Rec, Public Works our entire staff are going to work really hard to make this an incredible, incredible event.

“It’s the largest Fourth of July spectator event in the state of Tennessee,” Mayor Ron Williams said.

“We have 90-plus floats that are going to be going down Kingston Pike,” he said. “We’ve got a Freedom Run that’s going to start at 9 a.m., and the parade at 9:30 a.m.

“It’s going to be a hot one, so I’d say make sure that you come prepared for that,” Smoak added. “Our grand marshals this year are veterans from the different military services. It’s going to be phenomenal. I think were calling it vets in ’Vets.

“We’ve got a bunch of Corvettes going to be riding down Kingston Pike,” he added. “I really look forward to the parade every year. It’s the largest event we host here in the Town of Farragut.”
