Fox Den ladies hit the course

Fox Den Country Club hosted its 18-Hole Ladies Guest Day event, themed “Golf is a Gamble,” Thursday, June 11.

On that day, a club member can bring up to three guests to form a foursome. Or, two members can bring one guest each for one of several events in

the Fox Den Ladies’ Golf Association.

“It’s a good chance for them to bring their friends and guests show up,” said Danny Ackerman, the head golf professional at Fox Den. “We had people from Texas and New Jersey here, and people who are members are really proud of the club and love a chance to show it off. It’s a neat thing for the members, and we’ve had people want to join after experiencing that.”

The gambling theme stretched onto the course with a new format, “Gamble Two Ball,” where all four players played their own ball and did not find out which two teammates’ scores would count until after the hole was completed.

They also incorporated rolling the dice to determine additional team scoring elements throughout the day.

A particular highlight came in the creative outfits and decorated golf carts, which only added to the festivities.

The winning group — comprised of Patti Ricker, Linda Stanfill, Jane Denges and Evelyn Jackson — totaled a score of 139 to emerge with the victory.

The second-place team, finishing with a score of 147, included Stephanie Haywood, April Rouleau, Whitney Childers and Ashley McGaha.

In the second flight, the top team was Carol Hornstra, Patty Manney, Pam Stacey and Sundae Caudle, who combined to shoot a 154.

Secondly in that flight were Traci Smith, Jackie Ansley, Lynna Rader and Rylie Hennen; who shot a 155 altogether.

There also was an assortment of contests throughout the day. On the second hole, Teleri Hughes came 2 feet, 6 inches from the hole, while Janet Kincaid drew within 4 feet, 11 inches on No. 6. At No. 13, Debbie Siddons came 8 feet, 1 inch from the cup, and Pam Schaffer won the “Hit the Green” giveaway on the 16th green.

In the driving contests, Sheema Welch won the member-long drive competition with Hughes knocking the longest drive of guests.

Annette Stevens hammered the most accurate drive of members in attendance, while Anne Parkhill took the win for most accurate guest drive.

The group of Donna Farinella, Carole Zehring, Sheema Welch, and Sue Grady won best dressed, while Pam Schaffer, Lucy Hayes, Kim Luneburg and Ann Wall won the award for best decorated cart.
