Admirals Baseball honored at Town Hall
But the final one last Thursday, Aug. 17, was a fitting cherry on top.
In the Town’s weekly Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting, Alderman and former Admiral Drew Burnette read a proclamation declaring that day as “Farragut Admirals Baseball Day.”
“What has clearly surpassed as a good baseball team doing good things has turned into an absolute dynasty for the Town of Farragut,” Burnette said before reading the proclamation. “I don’t use that word lightly, but what you all do, what your coaches do and don’t forget what your parents pay for, commit to and all that stuff, I know, firsthand, that is a tremendous lift from the parental side.
“So, thank you, parents. Students, thank you for representing this town so well and carrying the name of Farragut throughout — it’s not just Tennessee, it’s throughout the whole country — and I see those rankings, and we get to watch them, and we love it, so thank you for all you do.”
The proclamation itself cited the program’s unprecedented feat of five straight state titles — which gave FHS the most in Tennessee history with 15 overall — and delved into the Admirals’ rich history, sportsmanship, discipline and “the pride they have brought to our community.”
“They deserve all the recognition they get,” head coach Garrett Copeland added after the ceremony. “To have the town’s support and the community’s support, it’s great for our players to be recognized for their hard work.
“We didn’t have the whole group here, but it’s something they will talk about for the rest of their lives.”
Seniors, such as Jake Harris and Zain Kureshi-Smith, certainly enjoyed the festivities, which celebrated their fourth straight state title to make this class 4-for-4 in its FHS tenure.
“I think it’s very special,” Harris said. “The Town of Farragut does a good job of supporting the team. We really value it and could not be where we are without the people who are around us and push us to be our best.”
“I am extremely honored to have been a part of this historic feat for our team,” Kureshi-Smith added. “I will always cherish the wonderful times I had with my teammates, who are just like family to me and will be lifelong friends. This has been an experience I truly cherish and will never forget.”
Harris, Kureshi-Smith and the rest of this year’s seniors will move on to the next chapter.
Now, for the next group, it is about continuing the tradition that has been set.
That started today, Aug. 19, as preseason workouts kicked off in preparation for the 2027 campaign.
“Although we have history and tradition, this group has not achieved anything,” Copeland said. “So we have to start fresh from day one and work hard to make things happen.”
