Three decades of keeping it safe
Supporters donated cans of peanut butter for Second Harvest Food Bank while enjoying the festivities.
“I’m trying to give back to the community because it really helped me,” Southern Safety Supply owner Sara Sizemore said.
The company sells personal protective gear, such as gloves, vests and other items used by utilities, contractors, manufacturers and public agencies.
“It’s been quite a change,” Sizemore said about the business.
“I started with a desk for $50 and an ISBN line. We put my products in a storage unit,” she recalled. “I thought I was the cat’s meow.”
Since then, “It has grown tremendously,” Sizemore said. She got her current location at 207 Center Park Drive, Suite 2090, in January 2019, and then joined Farragut West Knox Chamber in June of that year.
“The Chamber’s been the most helpful,” she said.
Sizemore remembered when people didn’t know what PPE, or personal protective equipment, was. Then, COVID-19 struck. Now, “it’s more common to wear vests, hats and the orange cone business is good. “
She also observed, “Knoxville has grown so much.”
