Lady Ads finding early success in 2026
Ava Upshaw led FHS with five goals and will certainly be looking for plenty more this coming week.
“She’s great,” FHS coach said of Upshaw. “She’s one of our more natural strikers, and I think it’s a challenge that we’ve been trying to work on as a team, to start off stronger and be ready to go.
“We’ve been talking to her about moving into a junior leadership role, and we’ve been challenging her to come out with a little vengeance. And she did.”
Becker’s approach reflects that of the entire team, which is the fourth under Burkhart’s watch.
“What I’ve liked is that they work hard,” she said. “It memay not be perfect. There are definitely things we can fine-tune, and I’d love for us to be a little more consistent, but there is not a lack of effort. The girls will go out and work hard and give you what they have. They’re a very unselfish team, and they’re willing to do the work.”
FHS will look to continue that next week, facing Webb and Baylor in a couple measuring-stick games.
“We’re hitting a pretty big gauntlet,” Burkhart said. “So I think we just want to see some of the same ball movement and things we’ve utit together these last couple games against those quality of opponents. Both teams are very well coached and have a strong history in their divisions, so it’s definitely something where we’ll try to see if we can measure up.”
