HVA downs Dawgs in sweep
It was a serving clinic last Thursday night, Sept. 10, at Bearden HIgh School.
Behind powerful serving that repeatedly set up winning points, Hardin Valley Academy’s volleyball team swept the Lady Bulldogs 3-0. The set scores were 25-14, 25-16, and 25-16.
The Lady Hawks improved their record to 13-2, (2-1, District 2, Region 4).
“I was really pleased with the way we played tonight,” said HVA coach Eric Boden. “I thought we served really well and the girls played together.”
“They’re a really good team,” said Kailtlyn Davidson, BHS coach. “I thought we played hard but we never really found our rhythm.”
HVA ran out to a 5-1 lead in the first set, then the teams traded points to a 17-11 Lady Hawks’ lead. An 8-3 stretch by Valley closed out the set, 25-14.
Scoring runs, so common in v-ball, hit the Lady ‘Dogs (7-8, 0-3) hard in the second set. Down 10-9, they then lost 10 of the next 12 points, and HVA led 20-11. BHS won four of the next five, but dropped four of the final five to trail two sets to none.
In the set, HVA’s senior setter Caroline Clauss won five straight points on her serve in one stretch. She did the same thing in the third set.
