‘Changed my life’: Lions honor late pastor
But CCS also is honoring one of its own in a manner that extends far beyond the field.
This year, the Lions are wearing an “AT” sticker to honor the late Allan Taylor, a beloved First Baptist Concord associate pastor who died this past July at the age of 71.
He served at the church from 2019 until his passing.
“Allan’s heart was not bound by one set of walls,” the First Baptist Concord website read about Taylor. “For decades, he devoted his life to strengthening churches across the country and nations, coming alongside pastors and congregations to help them grow biblically. He served with a shepherd’s heart wherever he went — pointing people to Christ and inspiring people to follow Jesus.
“The impact of his faithfulness reaches into communities and churches, and it will be felt for generations. Allan loved Jesus, loved this church and loved teaching others about the Lord. He reflected the love of Christ through his ministry, his kindness to all and his servant’s heart. It was a privilege to serve alongside him, and he will be deeply missed.”
For Lions head coach Steve Matthews, the tribute brought an especially personal meaning.
“I began meeting weekly with Allan two years ago, and at the time, I didn’t realize it was the beginning of a relationship that would change my life,” Matthews said. “Allan and I shared a love of football, and we enjoyed swapping stories about the game, coaching,and life. We also dove into the Bible headfirst, and week after week, he invested in me, challenged me, and encouraged me.
“The greatest gift Allan ever gave me was leading me to Jesus Christ. Through his teaching, he led me to be saved, and I publicly proclaimed Jesus as my Lord and Savior. That day forever changed my life.”
Matthews added that he will miss Taylor’s friendship and their Bible studies together.
“But his legacy lives on through the countless lives he influenced,” Matthews added. “I’m grateful to be one of them. Allan changed my life in a way that I will never forget, and we are proud to honor him as a team.”
