Anchor Learning Center’s recent held its annual BBQ and Bluegrass community outreach event at 1672 Harbor Crest Way Sunday, Sept. 20.

Attendees enjoyed food, bluegrass music by Cannon Creek, games and student-only worship time.

“Rich and Nina Levenson donate their barn venue each year for the event,” said Sherry Shope, Anchor Learning Center executive director. “The event is held to bring together students, parents, supporters and volunteers of the organization for fun and fellowship.

“We teach three blocks per day of Old Testament classes in the fall and three classes of New Testament in the spring to Farragut High School students for elective credit, made legal by parental permission, conducted off campus and without any government funds,” Shope said. “This event gives all of the students an opportunity to hang out together with each other, former students of the program and prospective students.”

Shope said the center was started with a goal of providing “released time” religious instruction for Farragut High School students who meet at Faith Promise Church in Farragut. ALC consists of three staff members and a board of nine parents and leaders in the Farragut community that represents five churches.

Any FHS student interested in taking a class as an elective must have his or her parents’ permission. For more information, visit info@alcfarragut.com
