HVA tops Farragut in rivalry tilt

Last Thursday, Oct. 1, the Hardin Valley Hawks rolled up 432 yards of offense in a 35-0 victory over Farragut. It marked their first win over the Admirals since 2019, and it is the first time since 2014 that HVA has taken down BHS and FHS in the same season.

“Not our night,” Farragut head coach Geoff Courtney said. “They had a couple big plays, and they won the line of scrimmage all night. If that wasn’t evident, you don’t know football. Credit to them — they’ve got a good group this year, and we didn’t play or coach well enough from start to finish.”

Farragut punted on seven of its nine possessions.

Even so, two FHS players — Hayes Sharp and Elijah Sadler — set career-highs against Hardin Valley in the loss.

Sharp tossed seven completions in 19 attempts for a career-best 119 yards while Sadler went

84 yards on five catches, pinning the ball to his shoulder on one of them.

Now, both programs will look to utilize the open date before the final push.

“Next week is the next opportunity,” Courtney said. “We’ve got a bye week and then two big region games,

and we have to make the most of our opportunities to make the playoffs, which is our goal.”

Meanwhile, HVA (5-2, 2-2) will wrap up its regular season against Oak Ridge, Cleveland and Ooltewah while seeking its first postseason appearance since 2018.

“I’m just happy for these kids,” HVA coach Tyler Wynn said of his players. “This is one of those program-defining wins for these guys, especially this senior class. I told them before tonight that we have an opportunity to be West Knox champions, and I’m proud of the way they played from the jump.”
